Macedonia year 1993 – Resurrection of Ilinden ☀ MNH (**)

The postal administration of the newly independent Republic of Macedonia (now North Macedonia) issued a stamp and a souvenir sheet in 1993 to commemorate a major national event.

The issue is titled “90th Anniversary of the Resurrection of Ilinden” and refers to the Ilinden Uprising of August 2, 1903, a pivotal event in Macedonian national history.

The issue consisted of a set of two items:

  1. Single Stamp:
    • Theme: 90th Anniversary of the Ilinden Uprising (1903–1993).
    • Denomination: Usually cited with a face value of 4 Denari (4 ден.) or similar lower denomination in the currency of the time. (Catalogued as Scott #15).
  2. Souvenir Sheet (Miniature Sheet):
    • Theme: 90th Anniversary of the Resurrection of Ilinden.
    • Denomination: This sheet contained one stamp, which often had a significantly higher face value than the single stamp (e.g., 20 Denari (20 ден.) or similar), or a single stamp of a different design/coloration set within a decorative sheet border. (Catalogued as Scott #16).

The issue date was August 2, 1993, which is the national holiday in North Macedonia commemorating the uprising. The term “Resurrection” (or “Voskresenie” in Macedonian) is often used in philatelic listings to reflect the national significance of the event.
