Spanish Cuba 1877 Newspaper stamps / complete set MH
Between 1870 and 1900, during Spanish colonial rule, Cuba issued several newspaper stamps designed specifically for mailing printed materials. These stamps often featured the reigning Spanish monarchs and were denominated in “M” (milésimas de peso).
In 1890, a series depicted King Alfonso XIII as a child, inscribed with “CUBA-IMPRESOS” to indicate their use for printed matter. The denominations included ½M, 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M, and 8M, all in reddish-brown colour.
The following year, 1891, another series was issued with similar designs and denominations, but in blackish violet.
These stamps are of interest to philatelists due to their historical context and distinctive designs. Collectors can find detailed listings and images of these stamps in specialized catalogues and online resources.
