In 2023, Serbia issued a special commemorative postage stamp series titled “Rulers of Serbia”, featuring two prominent historical figures: Prince Mihailo Obrenović and King Petar II Karađorđević. This philatelic issue was released to mark two significant anniversaries—the 200th anniversary of the birth of Prince Mihailo Obrenović and the 100th anniversary of the birth of King Petar II Karađorđević.
The stamps were officially presented in Kragujevac on September 15, 2023, in an event organized by the Post of Serbia and the National Museum of Šumadija. The issue includes two commemorative stamps with a face value of 0.82 euros each, featuring portraits of these rulers, designed by academic painter Boban Savić.
This release is part of a broader cultural effort to honor Serbia’s rich history and the legacy of its ruling dynasties, the Obrenović and Karađorđević families. The stamps come in a sheet format with eight stamps and seventeen vignettes, along with a first day cover (FDC) and a commemorative label.
