Great Britain postage stamp QV year 1841 2d blue Red Maltese cross SG 13000 £
Date / Issue
- The original Two Penny Blue was issued in 1840.
- In 1841 a modification was made: white lines added at top and bottom of the design to distinguish the new printings from the 1840 ones.
Catalogue Reference
- SG14 for the 1841 white-lines issue.
Margins
- Large or very large margins are highly desirable: evenly spaced on all sides so the design is well centred and frame lines are visible.
- Margins can make a big difference in condition grading and value.
Condition / Gum / Cancel
- If unused (mint), the original gum and condition of the paper (presence of so-called “ivory head” etc.) matter.
- If used, the clarity and type of cancellation (Maltese Cross, numerals in Maltese Cross etc.), how much the design is clear etc.
Shading, Paper, and Other Varieties
- Shades vary (Pale Blue, Deep Full Blue etc.).
- Paper type and “blued paper” or “ivory head” are variants that affect desirability.
