Croatia Serbian Krajina stamps year 1996 Europa CEPT – Famous women MNH set
In 1996, the Republic of Serbian Krajina issued a set of stamps as part of the EUROPA series, themed “Famous Women.” This commemorative issue, released on October 10, 1996, features two notable Serbian women:
- Mileva Marić-Einstein (1875-1948): A distinguished mathematician and physicist, Mileva was the first wife of Albert Einstein and is believed to have contributed to his early work.
- Milica Stojadinović-Srpkinja (1830-1878): A celebrated poetess, Milica was known for her lyrical poetry and is considered one of the prominent Serbian female poets of the 19th century.
Each stamp in this issue has a face value of 1.50 Yugoslav dinars. The stamps were printed using offset lithography and have a perforation of comb 13¾. The print run for each mini sheet was limited to 3,000 copies.
These stamps are catalogued as Michel numbers 59 and 60. They are available in both mint never hinged (MNH) condition and as first day covers (FDC).
Please note that the Republic of Serbian Krajina was a self-proclaimed entity during the Croatian War of Independence, and its postal issues were not recognized internationally. As a result, these stamps are considered cinderella stamps and may hold particular interest for specialized collectors.
