Yugoslavia year 2000 stamps Olympic games Sidney MNH set
The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FR Yugoslavia), which existed from 1992 to 2003 (and was later renamed Serbia and Montenegro), issued multiple stamp sets in the year 2000 to commemorate the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games.
The stamps were released in at least two main issues:
- Pre-Games Commemorative Set
Issue Date (Approx.): June 28, 2000
Set: A set of four commemorative stamps featuring different Olympic sports, often including:
Athletics
Swimming
Basketball
Wrestling
Design: The design for these stamps often incorporated elements related to Australia and Sydney, such as the Olympic rings, sport pictograms, and sometimes Australian fauna like a Kangaroo or Koala bear.
- Post-Games “Olympic Winners” Set
Issue Date (Approx.): Late 2000
Purpose: To celebrate the medalists from FR Yugoslavia at the Sydney Games. The FR Yugoslavia team won one Gold, one Silver, and one Bronze medal.
Key Focus: The Gold medal was won by the Men’s Volleyball Team.
Set: This issue included at least two stamps and a souvenir sheet (miniature sheet) dedicated to the winners, most notably commemorating the Volleyball team’s victory.
Note: In 2000, “Yugoslavia” referred to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FR Yugoslavia), which was comprised of Serbia and Montenegro.
