The Red Star Sports Club, commonly known as Red Star Belgrade or simply Red Star, is one of the most iconic football clubs in Serbia and Europe. Founded in 1945, the club is based in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Red Star has a rich history and has achieved considerable success both domestically and internationally. Red Star’s most notable achievement came in 1991 when they won the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League). They defeated Marseille in the final on penalties, becoming the first club from the former Yugoslavia to win Europe’s most prestigious club competition. Over the years, Red Star has produced and attracted many talented players. Some of the club’s most famous alumni include Dragan Džajić, Dejan Stanković, Darko Pančev, and Nemanja Vidić. Red Star has a fierce rivalry with Partizan Belgrade, another top club based in the same city. Matches between Red Star and Partizan, known as the Eternal Derby, are among the most intense and anticipated fixtures in Serbian football.
