The 2002 FIBA World Basketball Championship, also known as the 14th FIBA World Championship of Basketball, was held in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The tournament took place from August 29 to September 8, 2002. It featured national basketball teams from around the world competing for the title of world champion.
The tournament was organized by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) and featured 16 teams competing in a round-robin group stage followed by knockout rounds. The games were played at the Conseco Fieldhouse (now known as Gainbridge Fieldhouse), home of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.
The United States emerged as the champions of the tournament, defeating Argentina in the gold medal game. Yugoslavia won the bronze medal by defeating Germany in the third-place game.
