Yugoslavia 1966 stamps / 100 years since the 1st Serbian stamps – complete set MNH

The first Serbian postage stamps were issued in 1866, shortly after the establishment of a centralized postal system in the Principality of Serbia. These stamps were issued under the authority of Prince Mihailo Obrenović.

The first Serbian stamps were typographed and printed in two denominations: 1 para and 2 paras. They featured the portrait of Prince Mihailo Obrenović in an oval frame, surrounded by an ornamental design.

These stamps were produced in relatively small quantities and are considered rare today. They are highly sought after by philatelists and collectors due to their historical significance and scarcity.

It’s worth noting that the Principality of Serbia issued its own stamps until 1882 when Serbia became a kingdom. After that, stamps of the Kingdom of Serbia were issued.
