Uzbekistan 1997  Space / Cosmos set + MSS Mint never hinged

The 1997 Fantasy Spacecraft stamp set from Uzbekistan features a series of seven colorful and imaginative depictions of futuristic spacecraft. The stamps showcase a range of retro-futuristic spacecraft designs, including:

  • Sleek, dart-like silver ships with bubble cockpits
  • Rockets with multiple fins and thrusters in a vintage sci-fi style
  • Oblong-shaped red rockets arranged in a diminishing line
  • A massive “mile-long ship” in the background of some stamps

The stamps also incorporate other science fiction elements like planets, stars, satellites, and astronauts in spacesuits.  The overall aesthetic is reminiscent of 1930s comic book illustrations, with a vibrant, retro-futuristic feel. This Fantasy Spacecraft stamp set was issued by Uzbekistan in 1997 and has become a popular collector’s item among philatelists interested in space-themed and science fiction-inspired stamp designs.

The 1993 29c Space Fantasy commemorative stamp booklet, designed by Stephen Hickman and commissioned by the United States Postal Service, features a pane of five stamps showcasing futuristic spacecraft in a retro science fiction style reminiscent of 1930s comic books. The stamps depict a range of fantastical spaceships, including:

  • Retro-style rockets with excessive fins and multiple thrusters
  • Dart-like silver ships with a snub-nosed bubble helmet design
  • Oblong-shaped red rockets with three fins, appearing in a line growing smaller in each stamp
  • A massive “mile-long ship” in the background of the center and center-right stamps

The stamps also feature other science fiction elements like colourful planets, stars, artificial satellites, and humans in metallic spacesuits with bubble helmets. The stamps were designed to have a different central image in each of the five stamps, forming a single piece of art when viewed together. Released on January 25, 1993, the Space Fantasy stamp booklet was issued in Huntsville, Alabama, the site of the Marshall Space Flight Canter. It won the 1994 Hugo Award for Best Original Artwork.
