Slovenia year 2018 stamps Winter Olympic Games South Korea ☀ MNH**
Pošta Slovenije, Slovenia’s national postal service, recently released a commemorative sheetlet of six multi-colored stamps to mark the 2018 Winter Olympics held in South Korea. The stamps feature silhouette designs representing ice hockey and alpine skiing. This marks Slovenia’s eighth issue of sheetlet stamps dedicated to the Winter Olympics, which took place from February 9-25 in Pyeongchang.
The 2018 Winter Games involved approximately 6,500 athletes competing in 18 different disciplines, including ice hockey and alpine skiing. Slovenian athletes participated in seven disciplines: Alpine skiing, biathlon, snowboarding, ice hockey, freestyle skiing, ski jumping, and cross-country skiing.
Since Slovenia’s first participation in the Winter Olympics in 1992, its athletes have earned a total of 16 medals. In the 2018 Games, Slovenia secured one silver medal when Jakov Fak placed second in the men’s 20-kilometer individual biathlon event.
Slovenia’s most successful Winter Games in terms of medal count were in Sochi, where they won eight medals. Prior to that, there were three medals each in Lillehammer and Vancouver, and one medal in Salt Lake City.
