Serbia year 2002 stamps – Yugoslav Civil Aviation MNH set
Civil aviation in Yugoslavia had a significant history, marked by the development of its national carrier and the growth of its aviation infrastructure. The civil aviation industry in Yugoslavia began to take shape in the interwar period. In 1927, the national carrier Aeroput was established, initially operating domestic flights and later expanding to international routes.
In 1947, Aeroput was rebranded as Jugoslovenski Aerotransport (JAT), reflecting Yugoslavia’s new socialist identity. JAT became the national flag carrier and played a pivotal role in connecting Yugoslavia with the rest of the world. JAT Airways operated a diverse fleet of aircraft over the years, including Western-built jets like the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-9, as well as Soviet-made aircraft such as the Tupolev Tu-134 and Tu-154.
