Serbia is home to numerous archaeological sites and cultural landmarks that are of significant historical and cultural importance.

One of the most renowned archaeological sites in Serbia is the Roman complex of Gamzigrad-Romuliana, also known as Felix Romuliana. This site, located near the town of Zaječar in eastern Serbia, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. It was built by the Roman Emperor Galerius in the late 3rd and early 4th centuries AD as a palace complex and memorial to his mother.

Another notable archaeological site in Serbia is the Lepenski Vir archaeological site, which dates back to the Mesolithic period (approximately 7000–6000 BC). Located on the banks of the Danube River, Lepenski Vir is known for its well-preserved prehistoric settlement and unique stone sculptures.

While these sites are not specifically recognized by UNESCO as archaeological excavations, they represent the rich cultural heritage of Serbia and contribute to our understanding of the region’s history.

It’s worth noting that UNESCO’s World Heritage List includes both individual sites and larger cultural landscapes, so while there may not be a specific excavation site listed, there are certainly Serbian sites recognized for their archaeological significance and cultural value.
