Russia USSR stamps year 1964 Flora / Flowers
In 1964, the Soviet Union (USSR) issued several stamps related to flora. While you may have already seen the Agricultural Crops set (the 7-stamp series featuring wheat, corn, and potatoes), there were three other notable “Flora” releases that year, including a very popular Mushrooms set and a botanical anniversary issue.
1. The “Mushrooms” Set (August 1964)
This is one of the most famous Soviet flora sets of the 1960s. It features six common mushrooms found in Russian forests, rendered in vibrant, realistic colors.
- 4k: Chanterelle (Cantharellus cibarius)
- 4k: Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) — The iconic red-and-white mushroom.
- 6k: Saffron Milk Cap (Lactarius deliciosus)
- 10k: Cep / Penny Bun (Boletus edulis)
- 12k: Birch Bolete (Leccinum versipelle)
- 16k: Parasol Mushroom (Macrolepiota procera)
- Catalog Nos: Scott #2948–2953 / Michel #2963–2968.
2. 125th Anniversary of Sukhumi Botanical Garden (August 1964)
Sukhumi (in modern-day Georgia) is home to one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Caucasus. This set of two stamps commemorates its history and its role in plant science.
- 4k: Features the main entrance of the garden and lush greenery.
- 12k: Features a specific floral study (often associated with the giant water lily or subtropical palms found there).
- Catalog Nos: Scott #2946–2947 / Michel #2961–2962.
3. “Agricultural Crops” (June/July 1964)
Just in case you need a quick reminder of the subjects in the 7-stamp set:
- 2k Corn, 3k Peas, 4k Potatoes, 6k Sugar Beet, 10k Winter Wheat, 12k Cotton, and 16k Flax.
- Catalog Nos: Scott #2913–2919 / Michel #2922–2928.

Rare Varieties
If you are checking your collection, look for Imperforate versions (stamps without the holes along the edges). Both the Agricultural Crops and the Mushrooms sets were issued in limited imperforate quantities. These are significantly rarer and can be worth 2–3 times the price of the standard perforated versions.
