Norway postage stamps year 1955 – Norwex overprint MNH
In 1955, Norway issued a special set of postage stamps to commemorate the centenary of its first postage stamp, coinciding with the NORWEX philatelic exhibition held in Oslo. This set comprises three stamps, each featuring reproductions of classic Norwegian stamps:
- 20 øre stamp: Depicts the 1855 4 skilling stamp, Norway’s first postage stamp.
- 30 øre stamp: Features the 1856 3 skilling stamp.
- 55 øre stamp: Showcases the 1863 4 skilling stamp.
These stamps were overprinted with “1855–1955” and “NORWEX 1955” to mark the occasion. The NORWEX exhibition was a significant event, celebrating 100 years of Norwegian philately and attracting collectors from around the world.
For collectors, these stamps are notable not only for their historical significance but also for their design, which pays homage to Norway’s early postal history. They are sought after in both mint and used conditions, and first day covers (FDCs) from the NORWEX exhibition are particularly prized.
