Newfoundland issued a series of postage stamps in 1880-1896 featuring denominations of 1/2c, 1c, 2c, 3c, and higher values. The 1c stamp was printed in brown. The 1c brown stamp from this series is catalogued as Scott 35 and Unitrade 35. It depicts a portrait of Queen Victoria based on the “Widow’s Weeds” design by William Humphrys.
