Montenegro postage stamps year 2014 Flora – Mushrooms MNH

In 2014, Montenegro issued a commemorative postage stamp featuring the Sulphur Tuft mushroom (Hypholoma fasciculare) as part of its “Flora” series. This series included two stamps and two First Day envelopes, designed by graphic designer Zoran Popović from Podgorica.

The Sulphur Tuft mushroom is characterized by its cap, which ranges from 2 to 6 cm in size. Initially convex, the cap eventually flattens out, sometimes becoming concave with upturned edges. Its dry surface is whitish, adorned with brick-red scales that can sometimes appear golden-green. This species typically grows in deciduous forests on acidic soils, particularly in beech and oak forests, and can be found both individually and in dense clusters at various altitudes.
