Italy stamps United Lions year 1906 MNH set
The Italy 1906 stamp set is known to collectors as the “Leoni” (Lions) or “Leoni Uniti” (United Lions) definitive issue.
The “Leoni” name comes from the designer of the stamp, Nicola Leoni. The term “United Lions” is a nickname, likely a slight misinterpretation or colorful expansion of the Italian “Leoni” name.
- Year of Issue: 1906
- Purpose: Definitive postage stamps for the Kingdom of Italy, replacing or supplementing the previous issues of King Victor Emmanuel III.
The original set issued in 1906 consisted of two low-value stamps. A third value in a similar design was added much later in 1919.
