Rákóczi’s leadership during the Rákóczi Uprising (1703–1711) aimed to challenge Habsburg dominance and secure greater autonomy for Hungary within the Habsburg Empire. The uprising was sparked by grievances over heavy taxation, religious persecution, and the erosion of Hungarian political rights.

Rákóczi’s revolt gained considerable support from various segments of Hungarian society, including nobles, peasants, and ethnic minorities. However, despite initial successes, the uprising ultimately failed to achieve its goals. Internal divisions, lack of external support, and the military might of the Habsburgs led to its defeat.

Following the defeat of the uprising, Rákóczi was forced into exile. He spent much of his later life in France, where he continued to advocate for Hungarian interests and sought international support for Hungarian independence. However, his efforts did not result in significant changes.

Prince Ferenc Rákóczi II remains a symbol of Hungarian nationalism and resistance against foreign oppression. His legacy is celebrated in Hungary, and he is remembered as a national hero who fought for the rights and autonomy of his people.
