Germany Occupation of Serbia year 1942 Anti masonic stamps set
In 1942, during the German occupation of Serbia in World War II, a set of anti-Masonic postage stamps was issued. Here are some details about this notorious stamp release:
The set consisted of 4 stamps, each with a different denomination and design:
- 0.50 dinars – Depicting a Jewish menorah and Masonic compass
- 1 dinar – A caricature of a Jewish man and Freemason with exaggerated facial features
- 2 dinars – An octopus wearing a Masonic hat with a Star of David, its tentacles encircling a globe
- 4 dinars – A snake coiled around a Masonic emblem and menorah
The designs promoted antisemitic and anti-Masonic propaganda, reflecting the ideology of Nazi Germany and their collaborators in occupied Serbia. The stamps aimed to spread conspiracy theories alleging that Jews and Freemasons were controlling world events.
Inscriptions on the stamps included the Serbian text “Зидарство-Јеврејство” (Freemasonry-Jewry) and “Србија” (Serbia). They were printed on white paper with a granite underprint as a security feature.
