Germany Berlin stamps year 1961 Famous Germans set Used
The Deutsche Bundespost Berlin (West Berlin’s postal authority) issued a set of definitive stamps in 1961 as part of the long-running series titled “Bedeutende Deutsche” (Famous Germans or Distinguished Germans).1
These stamps featured portraits of famous German historical, cultural, and scientific figures. The initial stamps in the Berlin series were released throughout 1961, with a few more values following in 1962.

The stamps in the Berlin series are virtually identical to those issued by the Deutsche Bundespost (West Germany) for the same “Bedeutende Deutsche” series, with the one defining characteristic being the additional word “BERLIN” printed on the stamp.
