DDR Germany year 1956 – Composer Robert Schuman MNH stamps
The stamps were issued by DDR (East Germany) in 1956 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Robert Schumann (1810–1856).

🔍 The Schumann Error and Correction
The 1956 Schumann issue is notable because of an error in the sheet music design:
- The Error (Michel 529): The sheet music depicted on the initial 20 Pfennig (red) stamp (Michel 529) was mistakenly taken from a composition by Franz Schubert (Wanderers Nachtlied), not Robert Schumann!4
- The Correction (Michel 542): The error was discovered, and the 20 Pfennig stamp was re-issued later the same year (October 3, 1956) with the correct sheet music from a work by Robert Schumann himself (often catalogued as Michel 542 and Scott 304).
