Croatia year 2013 stamp Architecture – Croatia Bridges viaducts MNH**
In 2013, Croatia issued a set of postage stamps featuring notable bridges and viaducts in the country. The set showcases some of Croatia’s impressive architectural achievements in bridge construction. Here are the details:
The set consists of three stamps, each depicting a different bridge or viaduct:
- 3.10 Kuna – Pag Bridge: This cable-stayed bridge connects the island of Pag to the mainland. It was completed in 1968 and has a main span of 193 meters.
- 4.60 Kuna – Krk Bridge: Also known as the Tito Bridge, this arch bridge connects the island of Krk to the mainland near Rijeka. Built in 1980, it has a main span of 390 meters and was the longest concrete arch bridge in the world when completed.
- 7.10 Kuna – Mirna River Viaduct: This viaduct carries the Istrian Y highway over the Mirna River valley near Motovun. Completed in 2005, it is 1,354 meters long and features a series of tall concrete piers supporting the roadway.
The stamps were designed by Croatian artist Ariana Noršić, who used a combination of illustration and graphic design elements to create stylized representations of each structure.
The designs emphasize the architectural forms and lines of the bridges, with a clean, modern aesthetic. Each stamp includes the name of the bridge or viaduct, along with the inscription “Hrvatska” (Croatia) and the denomination.
Croatia has a long history of bridge building, with many impressive structures spanning its rivers, valleys, and islands. This stamp set celebrates some of the country’s more recent bridge engineering achievements, from the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
The stamps were printed using offset lithography by the Zrinski printing company in Croatia. They are perforated and have a glossy finish.
Among collectors, the 2013 Croatian bridges and viaducts set is popular for its attractive designs, interesting subject matter, and connection to Croatia’s architectural heritage. It appeals to collectors of Croatian stamps, bridge and architecture topical stamps, and modern European issues.
As with most collectible stamps, mint never hinged examples are the most sought after by collectors, as they represent the stamps in their original pristine condition as sold at the post office.
