In 1951, the People’s Republic of China issued a set of stamps commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Taiping Rebellion. The rebellion was a major peasant uprising that took place in China from 1850 to 1864.
The stamp set consisted of four values:
$400 green stamp depicting the peasant rebellion
$800 carmine stamp depicting the peasant rebellion
$800 orange-red stamp depicting coins and decrees
These stamps were issued on December 15, 1951 to mark the centenary of the Taiping Rebellion. They feature designs related to the uprising, such as peasant soldiers and revolutionary imagery.
Mint never hinged (MNH) copies of the 1951 Taiping Rebellion stamps are sought after by collectors of People’s Republic of China philately. Reprints of these stamps also exist, which can be identified by differences in the flag design compared to the original issue.
