Bosnia ( Fed. Sarajevo ) 1999 First Man on the Moon MNH stamp
The first man to walk on the Moon was American astronaut Neil Armstrong. On July 20, 1969, during NASA’s Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface, famously declaring, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
Armstrong was accompanied by fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who followed him onto the surface shortly afterward. Together, they spent about two and a half hours outside the lunar module, conducting experiments, collecting samples, and planting the American flag.
The Apollo 11 mission was a historic achievement in human exploration and a significant milestone in the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. Armstrong’s iconic first steps on the Moon captured the imagination of people around the world and marked a monumental moment in human history.
