II. The 1874 Issue (The “Fine Print”)
Starting around 1874, Austria replaced the “Coarse Print” with a new printing that utilized a different process or machinery, resulting in a “fine” impression. The details of Emperor Franz Josef’s portrait, particularly the hair and beard, appear much sharper and cleaner. These stamps were used for the Austrian portion of the monarchy only.
