The Grenada 1906 postage stamp with the Stanley Gibbons (SG) number 82 is a significant early 20th-century issue featuring the “Badge of the Colony.” This design, which shows a ship (Columbus’s flagship La Concepción), replaced the previous “Key Plate” portraits of King Edward VII.

Important Identification Notes

It is easy to confuse SG 82 with the later SG 86 (issued around 1908–1911). While they look nearly identical, the primary difference is the watermark:

  • SG 82: Features the Single Crown CA watermark.
  • SG 86: Features the Multiple Crown CA watermark.

To check this, hold the stamp up to a strong light or place it face down on a black surface (using watermark fluid if necessary). The Single Crown CA watermark will show only one crown and the letters “CA” per stamp, usually centered.
