DDR year 1959 stamps Ships Deep Sea Fisheries set MNH
In 1961, the German Democratic Republic (DDR) followed its botanical series with another iconic set for maritime and industrial enthusiasts: the “Hochseefischerei” (Deep Sea Fisheries) series.
Released on April 10, 1961, this set celebrated the GDR’s growing maritime fleet and its importance to the national economy. The stamps are known for their striking industrial aesthetic, typical of East German socialist realism in the early 60s.
