UN new York year 2007 space postage stamps set MNH

The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) office in New York issued a set of stamps in 2007 with a space theme to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the space age (the launch of Sputnik in 1957) and World Space Week.

The issue was titled “Space for Humanity” and was released on October 25, 2007.

UN New York “Space for Humanity” Issue (2007)

The New York office stamps were denominated in US Dollars and were part of a larger, coordinated release with the UN offices in Geneva (Swiss Francs) and Vienna (Euros).

  • Commemorative Stamps (Set of 2):
    • $0.41 value: Depicting the U.S. Space Shuttle.
    • $0.90 value (or $0.84 in some preliminary reports): Depicting Astronauts spacewalking.
  • Souvenir Sheets (often collected as part of the set):
    • The overall release included a souvenir sheet for each UN office. The New York souvenir sheet was reportedly denominated as $1.00 and sometimes pictured an extended version of the International Space Station stamp issued by Vienna.
    • A special “personalized” sheet with the “Space for Humanity” theme was also made available exclusively at the UN Headquarters in New York, featuring designs that mixed classic UN/New York images with space scenes and the World Space Week logo.

These stamps are listed in stamp catalogs under the United Nations New York section, and are a significant part of the 2007 UN stamp program.
