Serbia postage stamps year 2012 100 years of the Kumanovo Battle MNH
The Battle of Kumanovo, fought on October 23–24, 1912, was a pivotal engagement during the First Balkan War. This confrontation resulted in a significant victory for the Serbian army over the Ottoman forces in the Kosovo Vilayet. The triumph at Kumanovo not only bolstered Serbian morale but also marked a decisive step toward the decline of Ottoman influence in the Balkans. In the aftermath, the Ottoman army retreated from much of the region, enduring substantial losses in both personnel and military equipment.
The battle’s outcome allowed Serbian forces to advance further into territories previously under Ottoman control, including the strategic city of Skopje. This victory was instrumental in reshaping the geopolitical landscape of the Balkans in the early 20th century.
