Bosnia – Serbian year 1997 Flora – Flowers Plants stamps set

In 1997, the Bosnian Serb administration, which governed the Republika Srpska entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina, issued a set of stamps featuring flora, specifically flowers and plants. The set consisted of four stamps depicting different species native to the region.

The stamps in the set are as follows:

  1. 10 pfeniga stamp: This stamp features the image of a Lilium bosniacum, also known as the Bosnian Lily. It is an endemic species found in Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its vibrant orange color and distinctive shape.
  2. 20 pfeniga stamp: The stamp depicts the Gentiana dinarica, or Dinaric Gentian, a beautiful blue flower native to the Dinaric Alps region, which includes parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  3. 30 pfeniga stamp: This stamp showcases the Edraianthus serpyllifolius, a flowering plant in the bellflower family. It is found in rocky habitats in the Balkan region, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  4. 50 pfeniga stamp: The stamp features the Pinus heldreichii, also known as the Bosnian Pine or Heldreich’s Pine. This tree species is native to the mountains of the Balkans and is an important component of the region’s ecology.

These stamps were issued during a challenging period in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history, just a few years after the end of the Bosnian War (1992-1995). They serve as a reminder of the country’s natural beauty and biodiversity, even in the face of political and social upheaval.
