UN New York stamps year 1999 UNISPACE III MNH
The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) issued stamps from all three of its offices—New York, Geneva, and Vienna—to commemorate the Third United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNISPACE III), which was held in Vienna, Austria, from July 19–30, 1999.
For the UN New York office, the UNISPACE III commemorative issue released on July 7, 1999, consisted of:
- Two Commemorative Stamps:
- Denomination: $0.33 (33 cents)
- Denomination: A second stamp, often sold as a pair with the first. The denominations for all three offices were different, and for New York, the two main commemorative stamps are often cataloged as a pair (Scott #761-762 or Michel #819-820).
- One Souvenir Sheet:
- Denomination: $2.00 (containing a single stamp of that value).
- Theme: The overall theme for the UNISPACE III stamps was “Space Benefits for Humanity in the Twenty-first Century,” with the UN New York stamps and souvenir sheet focusing specifically on “International Interplanetary Exploration.”
The UNISPACE III issue is part of a coordinated series, with similar stamp and souvenir sheet designs released by the UN offices in Geneva (Swiss Franc denominations) and Vienna (Austrian Schilling denominations).
