Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (Kraljevina Srba, Hrvata i Slovenaca) was a state in Southeast Europe that existed from 1918 to 1929 formed on December 1, 1918, following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of World War I. It was created through the unification of the Kingdom of Serbia with the South Slavic regions of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was later renamed the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

The Kingdom of SHS was ethnically diverse, encompassing Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Macedonians, and other ethnic groups. Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its mix of Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims), Serbs, and Croats, was an integral part of the new state. The Kingdom of SHS laid the foundation for the subsequent Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which was established in 1929. However, ethnic tensions and political divisions persisted, leading to the outbreak of World War II and the disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its diverse population and contested political identity, remains a central focus of post-Yugoslav politics and reconciliation efforts.
